Wine tasting in the Hunter Valley is an excellent introduction to the Australian wine. You can find more than 150 cellar doors open daily.
The Hunter Valley produces less than three percent of Australia’s wine. Main subregions are Broke Fordwich, Lovedale, Mount View, Pokolbin and Wollombi Valley.
The Hunter Valley is Australia’s oldest wine growing region. Vines were first planted in the area in the early 1820’s from cuttings brought by James Busby, the father of Australian wine.
The most recognised wine is Semillon. It was known as Hunter River Riesling, when young, Hunter Valley Semillon is crisp with citrus aromas and flavours that pair well with seafood. With age Hunter Valley Semillon develops its unique complex toast, vanilla and honey flavours, giving it depth and richness.
The Hunter Valley is also known for producing outstanding Shiraz
